PUTRAJAYA: A special committee to look into complaints involving 20 enforcement agencies, and for the appointment of the anti-corrup tion head to go through the Constitutional process, are among the measures to further boost national integrity says the Prime Minister.
The committee will look into public complaints against enforce ment agencies, except the police, said Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
He said issues regarding the monitoring of the enforcement agencies were brought to the attention of the Special Cabinet Committee on Anti-Corruption.
This was raised in view of the possibility that the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission could be upgraded to become the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC). “The rest of the enforcement agencies will be subjected to the monitoring of the (new special)

Dr Mahathir also said the Special
Cabinet Committee had agreed to a proposal from the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) for the termination of service of its chief commissioner to be done through the Constitutional process. “It was also decided that a study be made on the procedure to appoint the MACC chief so that it can also be a process via the Constitution. 'This is to ensure that the appoint ment is free from government interference and to ensure trans parency and independence (of the MACC),M he said.
Dr Mahathir said the appoint ment of the MACC chief commis sioner would go through a process under which Parliament would name candidates deemed fit for the job.
The final list of names would be given to the Prime Minister who will then identify a person whom he will recommend to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
